Andrew Olle Media Lecture

The Andrew Olle Media Lecture was established in 1996 by the presenters and staff at ABC Sydney to honour the memory of ABC Radio and television broadcaster Andrew Olle. It focuses on the role and future of the media.

Previous speakers include Peter FitzSimons, Lisa Wilkinson, Joseph Kahn, Waleed Aly, Kate McClymont, Laurie Oakes, Ray Martin AM, Lachlan Murdoch, Kerry Stokes AC, Jana Wendt, Ita Buttrose, and most recently, Leigh Sales.

The event, broadcast live on ABC Radio Sydney and ABC News Channel, has been managed successfully by the in-house team at the ABC; however, due to conflicting projects, to ensure the prestige and reputation of the event was protected, a trusted external event producer, MB Squared, was contracted in 2019, 2022 and 2023 to manage the event and all broadcast components.

This case study is not about MB Squared changing up the format, it’s about how we successfully and seamlessly joined the in-house ABC team to deliver the event. It’s how we used our corporate and broadcast expertise to manage relationships with all key departments, lead on internal communications and protocols, streamline the attendee experience and all event logistics, improve AV and production output, show calling, liaison with broadcast crews, and how we were trusted to manage the ABC brand, its reputation, and the ethos of the event held in memory of one of Australia’s greatest journalists.
